Paul Bertrand Stopping by one day at Central Drywall I came upon Paul, at the rear of his building, swinging a golf club and firing balls into the back lot. He was amused at any shot that did not go well. He would laugh and then try again. For me that was such a metaphor for the life he led. He had that knowledge that there would sometimes be sadness and disappointment but the wisdom to accept things he could not change. Losing an infant at child birth and, much later, Eliette, were perhaps the greatest challenges to his ever positive attitude, but he could mourn, pick himself up and carry on with a smile. He had an easy way about him and such an engaging personality. You had to like him. I always remember Paul and Eliette’s anniversary party at Steve’s house. A wonderful gathering of family including so many from Quebec. At one point Eliette had some difficulty breathing and Paul immediately sprinted to the house to fetch the oxygen. He was devoted to her and an example for all of us. When it became my turn to care for my wife during her bout with terminal brain cancer, I often thought of Paul with Eliette. I have not seen Paul in many years, and though doubtful he would remember me because of his alzheimer’s, I will always remember and admire him.

Our deepest sympathy to Steve, Maureen, and Carl on the loss of your father and to all of the grandchildren for your loss of Pepe. Paul was such a thoughtful, kind and considerate person. We cherish all the fond memories of our week end card playing and family get togethers. Those were great times! We miss you Paul. Rest in peace with Elie. Our prayers go out to you both. My deepest sympathies to all the family, Steve, Maureen and Carl. I will always cherish the fond memories of Paul, Eliette and family sharing so many wonderful times at Grandma and Grandpa Lamarre's home. Paul was always the gentle soul in the room.
